Body Number Ten

Berlin, April 1920. The coup has failed. The killing has not.

Ten bodies are found dumped beside the railway tracks at the Silesian Station.

Nine are communist fighters, victims of the violence surrounding the failed Kapp Putsch.

The tenth man does not belong.

Dressed as a labourer but with soft hands and expensive underwear stripped of every identifying mark, he has been shot twice and carefully hidden amongst the dead. Before the police can discover who he is, the body is cremated and the investigation quietly closed.

Kriminalkommissar Dietz knows a cover-up when he sees one. He turns to the one man he knows who will keep looking, former intelligence officer Alaric von Trelow.

Alaric's search for the identity of Body Number Ten leads through Berlin's criminal underworld, Freikorps veterans, army archives, political police, and secret circles where the old Prussian codes of honour still hold sway. Then it reaches back into Alaric's own past.

Someone powerful wants the dead man forgotten.

And in a city still trembling from revolution and civil war, finding the truth may prove more dangerous than murder.

A dark, atmospheric historical mystery set in the dangerous early years of Weimar Germany.
